BE the Change study

What is the "BE the Change" study about?

Did you know that few members of Blacks and Latinos participate in medical research, such as clinical trials? This trend presents problems when trying to figure out the best way to treat diseases and other health issues among these groups. Because members of Blacks and Latinos experience greater burdens of illness, it is important that their experiences are included in clinical research. So we are interested in finding ways to recruit more individuals from Black and Latino communities to participate in clinical research.

What will I do if I choose to join the study?

We ask you to join a virtual (via internet connection) focus group to think about ways health researchers can better recruit people from Black and Latino communities to participate in clinical research. You will be asked to brainstorm with a group of peers about messages that would be helpful in recruiting more individuals. Your input will lead to more Black and Latino individuals participating in clinical research, providing valuable information that can improve the health of your community. Your feedback is crucial to learning about the best messages to increase recruitment.

Who is funding the study?

This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) at Howard University. The study is also in collaboration with the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS). The study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Howard University [IRB-19-COM-25].
